Community Leaders set to unveil Oju Odo – Abule Ekun bridge

The community leaders in Oke Odo, Agbado Oke Aro LCDA, Ifo Local Government Area of Ogun State has take the bull by the horn by taken the necessary steps to reduce the suffering of motorist and residents who ply Ijoko-Berger road on a daily basis as the only alternative bridge for them has been damage and has become a “death trap” as often said by most residents of their area.

Leaders from all the Area CDCs in Oke Odo such as Matogbun Area CDC, Olambe Area CDC, Adiyan Alausa Area CDC as well as Araromi Oke Odo Area CDC gathered on the bridge Wednesday to access the level of completion of the bridge and to brainstorm on how to make the bridge motorable as soon as possible. Consequently, committee was set up to work on palliative measure on the road, particularly the bridge. The members of the committee are: Engineer Bayo Agboola, Architect Kassim Agunbiade, Alhaji Adebesin, Architect Olubunmi Adekoya, Surveyor Akinbo and Alhaji Nurudeen Alimi. Other are Mr Abiodun Sorinola, Alhaji Ibikunle, Mr Adeoye, Engineer Segun Kushimo, Mr Akinfolarin, Mr Ishiyemi as well as Comrade Taiwo Olusegun.

The dilapidated alternative bridge

Ifo Zonal Chairman, Prince G. B Adebanjo while addressing the committee after inauguration admonished them to have cordial relationship with the construction workers and to work on how to make the bridge motorable saying lack of cordial relationship was one of the reasons there is no good alternative road while the construction is going on.

“We are not here to collect contract from anyone and we are not interested in the agreement between the government and the construction company, what is paramount to us is to have good road in our community and we can not continue to use that bridge that poses greater challenge to us; we can’t wait until bad thing happen or when someone lost his or her life before we take action when we have bridge that is near completion. That is why we are here to contribute our quota so that we can start using the bridge. I enjoy all the Area CDCs to support the committee morally and financially so that they can be successful in their assigned duty, Adebanjo added.”

Deacon O. M. Olapade, chairman, Matogbun Area CDC said all the community leaders are solidly behind the committee and wish them best of luck in the project they about to embark on.

Alhaji Agunbiade, a member of the committee said the committee will not limit herself to the bridge alone as they will work on road generally, adding that road challenge affect the community socially and economically.

Oju Odo – Abule Ekun bridge is one of the bridges Ogun State Government is constructing along Ijoko-Berger road for several years but yet to be completed. The road is one of the major roads that connect communities such as Olambe, Matogbun, Osere, Maidan, Adiyan Alausa, Abule Ekun, to mention a few to other part of the state and Lagos State.
