Crisis in Maidan over transformer
The transformer issue in Maidan took another dimension last night, 15th of July as the indigenes as well as the residents outrightly rejected the “hire purchased” transformer facilitated by Alhaji Saudi and some members of Omoluabi Group as they (Omoluabi Group) try to change the transformer, saying they are no longer interested in the transformer. Most of the residents are of the view that the 500 KVA transformer Alhaji Saudi asked them to pay 4.6 million naira for is sold for 2.2 million naira. Some of them also accused Alhaji Saudi and Omoluabi Group of lack of transparency in handling the transformer issue.
On the other hand, a member of Omoluabi Group popularly called Olasco said they decided to replace the transformer when officials of IKEDC hint them that the transformer cannot serve the community but was surprised when the people rejected the new transformer and don’t allow them to install the transformer at it normal spot.
Chief Imam of Maidan Town, Imam Yishau Kareem appeal to both the residents and Omoluabi Group, saying there will be a meeting the next day with the Baale and ask Omoluabi Group to put the transformer at the entrance of Imam Adegboola Street for now for peace to reign.
Recall that Maidan has been in blackout since December 2017 when their 300 KVA transformer developed fault and taken away by IKEDC in January 2018 for repair but as at the time of filling this report, the transformer have not been returned. Effort by the community to get their transformer prove abortive.
