… victim threatens legal action

Pandemonium broke out on Wednesday afternoon at Ogun State College of Health Technology, Ilese when some suspected thugs allegedly loyal to a factional chairman of National Association of Nigeria Students (NANS), Damilola Kehinde commonly called Da Osmos beat up a final year student of the institution, Memuletiwon Samuel.

It was gathered that Samuel who is the current Financial Secretary of Ogun State NANS was attacked by the factional students’ leader and his suspected thugs at the front of the administrative block in the school premises.

According to PLATFORM TIMES, Samuel explained that he was attacked while trying to honour an invitation by the Caretaker Chairman of the institution, Adekunle Oreoluwa.

The final year student complained that he was molested and battered by the suspected thugs who also allegedly tore his clothes and broke his eye glasses.

He narrated, “I recieved a call and the caller was telling me that his name is Elvis, he told me that the Caretaker Chairman of my school, Adekunle Oreoluwa wanted to see me and I honoured his call. On getting to the said place which was the front of our admin block, I met the factional vice chairman of NANS, Ekundina Segun also called Elvis, he started asking me questions which I replied those I can answer.

“Before I know what was happening, the factional Chairman, Damilola Kehinde Da Osmos alongside his gang started beating me, I was molested at the front of students and they even tore my clothes.

“It took the intervention of one lecturer and a security operative before they could leave me alone.

“The claimed that my offence is that I belong to a faction of NAN, whereas my school caretaker chairman and the director of Students Affairs signed the form I used to contest.

“I am just coming from the hospital where I was given some drugs so as to reduce the pains I am feeling. They broke my eye glasses while beating me, I can’t see properly because I have sight problem. I am traumatized”

Samuel however gave the suspected hoodlums 48 hours to tender a public apology and provide him a new eye glasses or risk legal action.

He added, “the DSA of my school has called me and I have told them to write an apology letter to me and to the whole students that witnessed the molestation.

“I also told them to get me new glasses. If they don’t meet up with my demands in the next 48hrs, I am going to take legal action against them.”

While reacting to the attack, the NANS Chairman in the state, Comrade Adeyemi Ajasa, popularly known as Samrich, expressed shock over what he described as “hooligananism and thuggery” by the faction.

The NANS Chairman also warned the accused persons to desist from such acts.

Ajasa said, “it is so sad that such thing can still be happening in the students constituency where thugs and hooligans who are not students parade themselves as NANS executives and as a students, and go into an institution to brutalise a bonafide student of such institution, this is a slap to the institution and it is a slap to the students’ constituency.

“I hereby warn them strongly and also want to let them realize that the governor we have in Ogun state is a peace loving governor and this attitude does not portray the government in any good manner.

“If such things repeat itself again, we are going to deploy irons for iron.

“As a children of tradition who are well tutored and nurtured, we seek peace and we want peace to keep reigning in the Gateway State. As a bonafide Nigerian student I want the progress of the educational sector and the progress of the state.

“But even at that, we won’t handover the peace of our students to the hands of hoodlums. I hereby call on all Nigerian students to remain calm, as we are on top of the situation.
