GOCO enjoy youths to shun violence as Akera CDC FC clinches trophy
Hon Ganiyu Alani Oyedeji aka GOCO, member, Ogun State House of Assembly, Ifo constituency 2 and candidate of Allied Peoples’ Movement in the forthcoming election had admonished the youths of his constituency to shun violence, especially as election approaches. GOCO stated this in an exclusive interview with our correspondent at the grand finale of Agbado Oke Aro LCDA Community Youth Football Competition held on 7th of March, 2019 at the African Church, Agbado.
“My advice for the youths is that they should shun violence. The election is coming up in the next 2 days and I want to appeal to them that they should ensure that they do not get involve in anything thuggery or whatever. Let them vote peacefully and go back peacefully and for the elderly people too, they are also part of this government, their prayers, their supports are what has keep us up to this level, we want them to sustain that, to continue to support the government of the day, to also ensure that they use their vote on Saturday to ensure that we have continuity in Ogun State because that is what has been lacking over the years. I hope and I pray that they do that coming Saturday by ensuring that they vote APM in all the elections.”
GOCO also clear the air on rumour flying around that he is sponsoring the competition now because of his re-election bid. His words “People can say that really but the truth of the matter is that this is one of different activities or different things that I do. This is not the only sport competition I sponsored, I have sponsored on many occasions. Like I said, this is not initially started by me, it was actually started by the LCDA but I find out that they have problem of completing it due to issue of finance and is within my constituency, I have to come in and assist, that is just what I do.”
He also assured the people of his constituency that, if elected he will sustain the football competition and other activities. “Certainly by the grace of God, in the next dispensation, we have as part of our programmes, not only even within the LCDA but across the constituency. By the grace of God, we will do more of this kind of activity because we can see that whenever we have sport is a way of bringing everybody together, irrespective of political affiliation, religion affiliation and all of that. It is also a way of keeping the body and soul together. So you can count that on me that by the grace of God, we will actually sponsor more of this in the coming years,” he added.
The Ifo Zonal CDC Chairman, Prince Adebanjo G. B in his interaction with our correspondent said the football competition is a welcome idea for the local government and the community to team up and to make sure that we keep our youths very busy, and at the end of it, we realized that we have many talented players in the community.
“Is a great opportunity for the youths in the nearest future. This event is going to add a lot of values to the youths in the community; they can be able to identify themselves, not only in sport, in many areas. It can also stop all these hooliganism in the community, so if they keep it up, it will be very very nice,” he added.
The Secretary to the LCDA, Hon Toheeb Ademuyiwa Davies in an interview with our correspondent said “The event is designed to engage the youths in the community, is a way of giving back to the society, a way of taping them young and getting the youths engaged by taken them off the street and off drugs.”
Davies also expressed his gratitude to Hon Ganiyu Alani Oyedeji for assisting the LCDA to complete the competition because the competition ought to have end since last year.
He also affirmed his political party commitment to continue the programme, if they remain in office. “Insha Allah, if my party continue to be in government we will ensure that this type of laudable project or programme is been continue by the LCDA because it goes a long way; one it gives the LCDA mileage, two it get the youth engage off the street and more so the novelty match that is been play today is sort of exercise for the old men around here.”
The head of the organizing committee, Comrade Taiwo Olusegun in his closing remark appreciate everyone who have contributed one way or the other to the success of the competition. He also commended the teams for their peaceful conduct.
Activities at the event include; third place match between Lemode CDC FC and IMA CDC FC, which ended in favour of Lemode CDC FC with penalty shootout; the novelty match between Political Office Holders and Community Leaders, which ended 2 – 1 in favour of Political Office Holders; final between Akera CDC FC and Orudu CDC FC, which ended 6 – 5 on penalty shootout in favour of Akera CDC FC; as well as presentation of trophies, awards and certificates.
