Green House clinched Gold at Al Qalam Schools’ Inter-House Sports Competition
Wednesday, 23rd of February, 2022 was indeed a memorable, glamorous, and fun-filled day for students, parents, staff, management as well as wishers of Al Qalam Schools, Ibadan as they hold the 3rd edition of their biennial Inter-House Sports Competition.
The event which was held at Carmelite Sports Field, Ekerin Ologuneru Area Ibadan was well attended by prominent personalities in the society including parents, friends, and associates of the school.
In her welcome address, the Director of Academics, Hajia Rukayat Abimbola Otun appreciates Almighty Allah for witnessing the occasion adding that the event is an avenue for them to learn outside the classrooms.
Her speech reads: “It’s my pleasure to welcome you to our 3rd Biennial Inter-house sports competition.
“Alhamdulillah, we are here today to learn outside the classrooms as usual, not just to sport, have fun, and be entertained with various activities. As Muslims, the essence of knowledge is to serve Allah- our creator even when carrying out our daily activities at home, work, or anywhere in as much we are engaging with the dictates of Allah and teachings of our beloved Prophet Muhammad (SAW).
“For these reasons, we keep offering wholistic approach to learning in Al Qalam Schools, Muslim children must be taught how to be physically fit to serve Allah. Rasul Kareem ( SAW) said a strong Muslim is beloved to Allah than the weak and this could be interpreted to mean being physically fit too.
“It’s imperative to state that Sports Competition has a lot of learning involved like imbibing the habit of tolerance with co-learners, endurance, team spirit, obeyance to rules and regulations among others.
“Importantly, this type of extra-curriculum activity is an inclusion of Nigerian curriculum with specific goals and objectives to be achieved, which include the mental and physical wellness of learners.
“At this juncture, I want to appreciate all staff members for their hard work, time, initiatives, cooperation, and understanding and I wish to sincerely commend their efforts and commitment towards the sustenance of the academics, sporting, and moral culture in Al Qalam Schools. I must as well, specially thank the 2022 Inter-House Sports Committee for their selfless efforts, courage, and determination to put this event together. Above all, thanks to Allah for assisting us through till now.
“I am glad to inform you all that Al Qalam School has been working in all aspects of her activities with Government, Communities, Agencies, Organisations, Schools to mention a few. That’s why, invited schools, members of Ologuneru Medical Center and others are present today to make it a memorable, funfair event. We really appreciate them.
“To Allah be the supreme honour, I feel happy that our school is being honoured by the Chairman of the Civil Service Commission of Oyo State, in person of Alhaji Kamorudeen Aderibigbe who is the Chairman of today’s event. It’s a double honour to us as he is the Chairman and Patron of Blue House in this year’s Sports Competition.
“To our parents with proven record of integrity, expression of love and supports to the school. You are welcome.
“To our esteemed students and pupils, our sport boys & girls of today, let me use this occasion to admonish you that there is no shortcut to success, its only true sincere belief in Allah and hard work. So, be diligent in your academics and always aspire to become better ambassadors of Islam. I, therefore, congratulate every participant of today’s event and I wish you safe sporting with good luck.
“Finally, on behalf of Management & Staff of Al Qalam Schools, I’m honoured to welcome everyone once again and I am wishing you all best today and forever, jazakumullah khayran.”
The Director of Finance and Administration of the School who is equally the Chief Host of the event, Alhaji Otun Ishaq Ajibola, FCNA, FCIT remarked that the overall success of the event and entire activities of the school comes from Allah – The Planner and Fashioner. He then appreciated being surrounded by wonderful people such as staff, parents, families, friends, well-wishers as well as Muslim communities.
Activities at the event include; the House Parade, March-past, Race ( 25 meters, 50 meters, 75 meters, 100 meters, 200 meters & Relay Race), Thug of war, Sack Race, Search for Coins, Backing the Baby, Egg Race, and Father’s Shoe. Others are; Parents’ race, old students’ race; male and female category which was won by Abdullah Sulaimon and Yusuf Faridah respectively.
At the end of the competition, Green House emerged the overall winner with 474 points, followed by Yellow House with 456 points, while Blue and Purple House earned 434 and 416 points respectively.
Alhaji Abdullahi in his vote of thanks, appreciate Alhaji Kamorudeen Aderibigbe for being the Chairman of the occasion, he also appreciates all distinguished guests and gives credit to staff of Al Qalam Schools for their tremendous efforts and commitments towards bringing the best out of their students at all times.
Parents and students who could not hide their feelings have these to say:
“I am impressed in the manner the school organized the Inter-House Sports, that I cant really express how happy I feel but I am so excited and glad that the kids enjoyed the whole activities,” a parent, Mrs. Balqis Abdul-Rafiu asserted.
A student of the school, Agbalaya Sekinat said “the event was interesting, that it went excellently okay for me and I’m happy that my house (Yellow House) came 2nd position.”
