A private school situated at Akute, Ifo Local Government Area of Ogun State known as Groomers Private School has emerged winner of the 3rd edition of the annual Community Gist Spelling Bee tagged Community Inter-Schools Spelling Bee. The event which was organized by a leading community media organization known as Community Gist and sponsored by a giant automobile and garage equipment company in Africa known as Garu Technologies Nigeria Ltd was held on Saturday, 14th of March, 2020 at The Community Hall, Matogbun.

The Publisher and Founder of Community Gist, Azeez Ramon in his welcome address appreciate everyone present and Almighty God for giving them the opportunity to witness the historical event. Part of his speech reads:

“We gather here today to contribute our quota to community development in particular and national development in general by bringing together future leaders within and outside our community to hone their spelling skills, interact and to inculcate the habit of learning in them. It is not about who emerge as the winner but to interact, network and learn from one another.

“You will all agree with me that spelling skill is declining in great proportion among our pupils/students, even adults as most of us now rely heavily on technology such as auto-correction on our mobile devices in order to make simple sentences. We see this as a great menace and challenge to our educational system, which is the reason why we are putting together an event like this as we believe and optimistic that with this pupils/students spelling skills will improve tremendously as teachers and school owners present will work on grey areas they identify.”

Azeez also calls on well-meaning Nigerians and corporate organizations to support the program in order to make it bigger and better. ” At this junction, we are calling on well-meaning Nigerians and corporate organizations who are passionate about educational development to partner with us to make this event bigger and better as we are determined to motivate and courage pupils/students to do better academically.” He added.
