Inner Wheel enrols over 200 for free Adult literacy program

Following the value it has for education and human capital development, Inner Wheel Club, District 912 has enrolled over 200 adults for free literacy program.

The Inner Wheel Club District 912 Nigeria led by the District Chairman, Mrs Ronke Solomon, flagged off the six months free adult literacy programme in Mushin, Lagos and 9 other centres on Tuesday.

According to the District Chairman, Mrs. Solomon, the credence it gives to education is the driving motive for launching the free education programme.

The programme which was flagged off in Mushin and Ikorodu where Mrs. Solomon personally conducted the exercise and 8 other centres which were flagged off on her behalf by officials of the Inner Wheel will run for six months and participants will be awarded certificate.

She said all teachers payment and logistics in the 10 centres for the adult literacy program would be catered for by the Inner Wheel Club.

Mrs. Solomon said the training will afford participants to make up for lose opportunities to acquire basic education while growing up.


She said: “This training will enable the beneficiaries to make up for the loss opportunities of their youthful age. It will enhance their ability to handle and interact with the larger society successfully, be in the market place or any other of their endeavours and business transactions.”

“Focus will also be in rural areas where will be be engaging them on how to read and write and it will make them become better and useful to their operational environments.”

If these elders, men and women are educated, they will be able to easily write their cheques, tellers and all business transactions which will help them to prevent theft in their businesses.

Inner Wheel Club Past District Chairman, Mrs Yinka Ayanwale urged the students to be serious with the literacy programme.
She told them that the training would go a long way in shaping their lives for better.

She said: “Dont take this training for granted, it will go a long way in helping you shape your life for better. It will help you in your business transactions. If you are educated, no one can cheat on you.
You will be awarded a certificate after the completion of the 6 months training.”

Mr Ganiyu Shodeinde, one of the participants thanked Inner Wheel on behalf of other beneficiaries. He said the training will assist him as well as others in their businesses and daily interactions with their non native speakers.

At the Ikorodu venue of the flag off ceremony, it was conviviality as learners were enthusiastic just as their counterparts in Mushin.


They welcome the Inner Wheel chairman and her officials to the venue with excitement and hope of bettering their lives in education.


Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Augustine Beatrice appreciated the good gesture of the Inner Wheel club. She prayed God bless them for giving them the opportunity to learn again when they have thought all hope was lost.


She said: “We thank you ma for your initiative to give us this free adult education, may God bless you. I have thought there is no hope again for me to be educated, but today, you have given me and others here the hope of learning again.”
