IYD: Youths dialogue with Council Leaders

National Youth Council of Nigeria, Ojokoro Chapter organized youth dialogue/interactive session with the leadership of Ojokoro LCDA, in commiseration of 2019 International Youth Day (IYD) in order to give youth in the LCDA the opportunity to interact and express their feelings to their representatives at the council.

The event which was well attended by youths across the length and breadth of the LCDA was held at the LCDA secretariat on Thursday 15th of July. Prominent personalities at the event include; Chairman of the LCDA, Hon. HID Tijani; Hon. H. O. Davies, Super for agric and youth; Alhaji Salisu Adekunle, HOD for Agric as well as Hon. Segun Adeniji, Chairman, House Committee on Youth, Agric and Rural Development.

Comrade Olaniyi Ilori, the Youth Cordinator, NYCN, Ojokoro Chapter in an interview with our correspondent said the International Youth Week (IYW) is a week to celebrate the youths.

“IYD is recognized and approved by United Nations and any country that is member of UN celebrate it. But here in Ojokoro LCDA, we are using it as a 1 week celebration to celebrate ourselves because we as youths if we did not celebrate ourselves, nobody is going to celebrate us; that is why we are here to celebrate ourselves to see a way to discuss the theme for this year, which is transforming education because it is very important for youths to key into the UN sustainable agenda of 2030 and that’s why we are here, Ilori asserted.”

Ilori is also optimistic that the event will add a lot of values to the youths of Ojokoro. He said: “It will add a lot of values because during the interactive session for today, we had been able to identify some challenges and some issues that we have regard education in Ojokoro LCDA, even in Nigeria.”

He then advised the youths to be proactive and see themselves as leaders of today and tomorrow. “My advice for the youths is for them to be proactive, to see themselves as leaders of today and tomorrow because tomorrow start from today. I want them to see themselves as future of this country, without them there will not be this country and without them this country, Nigeria can not move forward.

Hon. Segun Adeniji, Chairman, House Committee on Youth and Sport in an interaction with our correspondent said the programme is commendable and is part of remark of celebrating IYD in our LCDA and the theme is quite interesting.

“This programme is going to add a value to the youths because the orientation of our youths in terms of employment and education differs and I believe with all the speakers that have delivered lectures, their orientation will change that Nigeria of today; our youths should not depend solely on white colar job rather they should engage in vocational training. I will tell the youths to be good ambassadors and they should not sold their values for money because when you play today you pay tomorrow, he added.”

Hon. Saliu Adekunle, Super for Agric and Youth while addressing the youths, admonished them to transform their education through vocational skills, telling his story of how he used furniture work to transform his education.

The Chairman, Ojokoro LCDA, Hon. HID Tijani commended the youths for a well done job and pledged to always support them.

Activities for the IYW include: Youth conference/advocacy visit, Jumat servic/youth evening hangout, novelty football match as well as thanksgiving service.
