Jed Recycling Initiative sensitize communities on waste management
In a bid to cushion the negative impact of environmental pollution, a non-governmental organization known as Jed Recycling Initiative carried out an outreach tagged “Ibadan PETBottles Drive 3.0.” The outreach which was meant to sensitize the people on waste management took place on Thursday, 9th of July, 2020 at Molete, Gege, Bode, Ogunpa communities of Ibadan, Oyo state, Nigeria.
Jed Recycling Initiative Volunteers were seen creating awareness and sensitizing the general public which include; market women, shop owners as well as household members on the negative effects of plastic pollution. They enlightened them on how to dispose their waste properly saying blockage of drainages by non-biodegradable waste is the cause of flooding.
The Team Lead, Jed Recycling Initiative, Solomon Adelowo in a Whatsapp chat with our correspondent said the outreach is an effort to raise awareness about the global plastic waste crisis.
“The outreach has a lot of benefit on the community. It supports the effort to raise awareness about the global plastic waste crisis, mostly from rivers or careless dumping on land. The outreach also made the community members to be eco- conscious and to see the impact of plastic pollution on their immediate environment. It will also drastically reduced the number of plastic disposed in to the surroundings. It would intimate the people to utilize the 3R’s; Reduce, Reuse and Recycle. In the long run, it would help achieve a Sustainable Environment for all.
“Jed Recycling Initiative has identified that ending plastic pollution and reducing the incidence of flooding requires a community based approach and that’s why we also incorporated Environmental Seminar tagged Waste Management Routines for Sustainable Growth and Development which have being done in over 10 communities in Nigeria.
“In the long run, our mission is to accelerate the world’s transition to a sustainable environment and eco-friendly practices,” Adelowo asserted.
