LYCDI urge Federal and State government on emergency relief packages for Lagos residents as the state lockdown for next 14 days due to COVID-19

LYCDI URGE FEDERAL AND STATE GOVERNMENT ON EMERGENCY RELIEF PACKAGES FOR LAGOS RESIDENTS AS THE STATE LOCKDOWN FOR NEXT 14 DAYS DUE TO COVID-19

The Chairman of Lagos Community Youth Development Initiative LCYDI, Comrade Akanni Michael has urged the Federal Government and State Government to make emergency provision and necessary relief packages for Lagos State residents as the state lockdown for the next 14days due to COVID-19 Epidemic.

The Chairman of the Organization, said such packages must be closely monitored till they get to all residents including elderly and Youths, which this lockdown directives of the Government will affected.

He said this in a Media release on Monday morning in Lagos in reaction to the Nationwide Broadcast by President Muhammadu Buhari on Sunday night.

Describing the lockdown, in the face of the ravaging COVID-19 pandemic, as a welcome development, Comrade Akanni said the announcement by President Buhari met the demands of most Nigerians at this critical time.

“The President Buhari has really met the expectations of most Nigerians with the announcement of a total lockdown of Lagos, which is the epicenter of the COVID-19 in Nigeria.


“It is a welcome developments, and as Community Youth Organization that understand the level of hunger in the land, we believe the measure will assist the government in effectively curtailing the further spread of the virus.” Akanni asserted.

However, we request for the emergency relief packages, either inform of monetary through verified BVN or Provision of Food packeges; the government, both state and federal should not delay in providing the promised relief packages for the vulnerable masses in the state that will be helpless with this sudden measure.

Without providing the reliefs, it will amount to double jeopardy as the fear of contracting deadly Corona Virus COVID-19 outside and hunger, caused by inability to go out to source for food, would worsen their condition, Akanni emphasised.

Our organization will continue to encourage all our community Youths and other residents in the state to be involved by taking preventive measures, and support the Government to compliment various preventive measures of NCDC and Ministry of Health to curtains the spread of COVID-19, adding that washing of hands with soap and water always, use of Hand sanitizer, maintaining good hygiene at all times, avoiding needless large gathering of people, as well as maintaining social distancing, among others are required of all residents across the state.

While saluting the courage and patriotism of Health Workers and other Ad-hoc personnel at the frontline of battling the CoronaVirus, Comrade Akanni Michael urged the government to place high premium on their general welfare. According to the State Chairman of LCYDI, taking proper care of the welfare of these personnel will spur them to making more sacrifices and ensuring that patients get the best of attention and care.

No doubt, our Doctors, Nurses and other health workers have been making a lot of sacrifices to contain the spread of COVID-19 in Nigeria, and it is on this basis that we urge the government to prioritize their welfare and ensure they get all the needed support to perform optimally. He appreciated those that make efforts to donate to support the Government to contain the spread of COVID-19 in Lagos State and Nigeria.

Comrade Akanni also noted that more centres are needed for testing the status of suspected cases in order to ease the tension created by the present adversity affecting the whole universe.
