Social media, the major problem of humanity in the 21st century – Sheik Lukman Koyejo

Sheik Lukman Koyejo, a leading Islamic scholar have noted that the major problem of humanity in the 21st century is social media and social life as the duo has expose human, especially the youths to a lot of temptation simply because they misuses and apply them. He stated this while delivering his lecture titled “The relevance of Ramadan and solutions to the youths temptation in the 21st century at the 2nd annual Ramadan lecture of Araromi Oke Odo Youth Forum held on Saturday, 25th of May, 2019 (20th of Ramadan, 1440AH) at Masterpiece School, Beulah, Oke Aro.

He said social media that suppose to serve as source of encouragement and learning for the youths is a source of temptation for them because they misuse the technological development.

Sheik Lukman who described Ramadan as a month of blessing and forgiveness said Allah does not ask us to fast in order to punish us or because of hunger but to have the fear of Allah citing Qur’an chapter 2 verse 183 as reference and listed important of Ramadan as follows: The Holy Qur’an was revealed in the month of Ramadan, it is the 4th pillar of Islam, fasting help someone to attain taqwah (Fear of Allah), the Night of Majesty (Lailatul Qodir), the gates of paradise are open, the gates of hell fire are close and Shaytan is chained, the Muslims observe itikaf, it is very rewarding to give iftar, it is highly recommended to observe zakat in the month of Ramadan, we will be forgiven of all sins, provided majors sins are not committed.

According to him, solutions to the youths temptation in the 21st century include: persistent and proper upbringing of children by parents, making mosque and society a more inclusive place, good leadership as well as good education.
