Stakeholders hold peace and security meeting

The stakeholders in Matogbun and environs had on Thursday, 26th of September, 2019 came together to brainstorm on how to have sustainable security for lives and property in their community. The event which was put together by Committee for Defence of Human Right (CDHR) and held at The Community Hall, Matogbun had prominent community leaders and security personnel such as The Nigerian Police, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) as well as So – Safe Corps in attendance.

Comrade Adaramola Philip, Cordinator, CDHR, Osere unit in his welcome remark said the stakeholders forum is meant to promote and enhance sustainable peace and security in the community.

“We consider this forum necessary to promote and enhance sustainable peace and security in our communities, more so to cart a way forward to identiy challenges confronting our peaceful co-existence and community growth. You will agree with me that respect for human right and promotion of peace are basic tools for sustainable security. We must respect the rights of others and shun every act that is capable of breaching peace, we must respect the laws of the land and partner with relevant agencies for its enforcement. As a community stakeholders, we must understand that modern day policing of lives and properties requires collective efforts and cooperation. We must all be involved, we should not harbor crimes rather we should condemn and expose perpetrators, Philip asserted.”

Deacon O. M. Olapade, Matogbun Area CDC chairman in his remark commended CDHR for a well done job and said that the community will fully support CDHR particularly on security issue.

“The community have different impression about CDHR or human right activists before now but this programme have change our impression. I use to tell community members to always suspect their neighbors and let their neighbors also suspect them, Olapade added.”

ASP Bernard Ojo of Olomowewe Police Station while addressing the gathering admonished them to be security conscious adding that community policing is the only solution to security challenge because Nigeria police lack adequate number of police officers. He said the hoodlums who had find it difficult to operate in Lagos are now in Ogun State, particularly Agbado and environs and urged members of the public to be vigilant and security conscious sayi ng police is in need of honest and reliable people to be part of the community policing.

CSC A. O. Idowu, NSCDC Divisional Officer, Agbado who talked on peace, security and human right said someone can only have peace if such person is secure saying security of the community is in our hands because security is everybody’s business. He said everyone contribute one way or the other to the security challenge because we habor some of the criminal by refusing to say something when we see some.

“Peace will come when we all do what we suppose to do by contributing our quota to support the security agencies. He added.”

He then commended CDHR for a well done job and urge them to be very careful with their struggles saying protest should not always come first.

The Deputy Commandant, FRSC, Agbado Division, S. O. Tosin admonished transport union leaders to always have proper records of their members because of them are informant to criminals. He then gave several safety precautions for motorists while driving.
