World Environmental Day: NSE sensitizes Al Qalam School Students, EcoVanguard

The Nigerian Institution of Environmental Engineers, Oyo State Chapter, a division of Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) organizes Environmental Week 2022 in a unique way with the Theme ONLY ONE EARTH.

In her activities for the week, on Wednesday 1st June 2022, the institution visited Al-Qalam Schools, Ologuneru Area of Ibadan, the Oyo State capital to stage an Environmental Awareness Talk with the College Students as well as members of EcoVanguard Club.

The institute’s team was led by Associate Professor AbdWasi’ Ajagbe, the Chairman, Nigerian Institute of Environmental Engineers (NIEE), Oyo State Chapter.

While addressing the students, Associate Professor AbdWasi’ Ajagbe admonished them to be environmentally conscious and friendly.

The Director of Academics, Hajia Otun Rukayat Abimbola on behalf of the School Management thank the Institute of Environmental Engineers (NIEE), Oyo State Chapter for choosing Al-Qalam Schools as a host of her event adding that the event was actually “a round peg in a round hole” and the Management look forward to further collaborations towards proper education and orientation of the youths and entire public.

The President of EcoVanguard Club, Mr. Oladapo AbdSalam Abioye, a 500L student of the Department of Civil Engineering, University of Ibadan described what the organization stands for and urged the participants to inculcate healthy waste management habits. His words: “EcoVanguard Club is a grassroots student-led group affiliated to the Clean Ibadan Ambassadors (CIA) programme.

“The purpose is to educate students both secondary school and Higher Institutions, on the importance of proper waste management practices and advocate for an eco-friendly environment and the implementation of a circular economy.

“The youths are the future, introducing them early to these concepts prepares them as change-makers who are capable of creating a zero-waste future.”

The event additionally prepares all participants for the forthcoming World Environmental Day, which takes place yearly on 5th June.
