In a bid to develop the capacity of their youths both physically and intellectually, Ope Ilu Area CDC Youth Wing, under the leadership of Comrade Yusuf Omidokun Okikiola has organized a football tournament that is meant to bring the youths of the Area CDC together to interact and showcase their football skills.

The maiden edition of the football tournament, which is scheduled to run from 14th of March till 5th of April has all the groups of CDAs under the Area CDC represented.

In an interview with our correspondent, the Chairman of the Area CDC, Sir Kolawole Raphael said the tournament is meant to develop the youths of the Area CDC saying the Area CDC believe so much in capacity building of the youths. His words: “In our Area CDC, we believe in the capacity building of the youth, both physically and intellectually. But luckily, this is a showcase to ensure that all areas within the Area CDC come together and physically contest football dexterity. What they are trying to play today is football and tomorrow it might turn to athletics. We still have more plans; table tennis, long tennis, depending on what we have in mind but this programme is for football. The whole Groups in the Area CDC are competing and the players have been showcasing skills in football and we hope that they develop these skills so that they can become international players.”

The Chairman also admonished the youths to remain focus and have purpose saying this is what can make them successful in life. “A lot of them are making troubles because they have no purpose. In life, if you don’t create purpose for yourself, nobody will and it is when you have purpose that you will have direction, then the direction that you have create for yourself will chart your path towards it, you will be working towards it and that will be the self motivation for your success because nobody will push you and this programme will put that in their mind that you can only motivate yourself to go ahead.” He added.

The Youth Representative of the Area CDC, Comrade Yusuf Omidokun Okikiola said the main reason behind the tournament is to bring youths in the Area CDC under one umbrella for good conduct and community development. “We want to bring the youths together, to work towards capacity building and youth development,” Omidokun said.
