MumsWhoCode set to equip women with tech skills for free

MumWhoCode is set to equip women, especially mothers at the cohort 4 of their Digital Women Bootcamp.

The Founder of MumsWhoCode and Program Manager of Digital Women Bootcamp, Aghama Moriah Jesurobo said the Digital Women Bootcamp is meant to empower women, especially mothers in order to be self reiant.

Her words: “Digital Women Bootcamp is a capacity building program organized by MumsWhoCode with the aim of providing in-demand tech skills training to women especially mothers who make up the minority population in the tech workforce across Africa.

“The Digital Women Bootcamp is a free 8 weeks, instructor-led training program held online with classes uniquely tailored for women especially those with maternal responsibilities. Women take part in weekly online classes, team assignments, mini-projects and submit a final capstone at the end of the 8 weeks which is a mandatory requirement for successful completion. At the end of the training, a closing ceremony and demo day is organized for women to showcase their projects.

“Since May, 2021, MumsWhoCode has enrolled over 1000 women in 3 cohorts and equipped them with skills in the following areas: Programming, UI/UX Design, Cloud Computing, Digital Storytelling and Design with Canva, Data Science, Data Analysis.

“We have recorded amazing testimonies from our graduates of the programme who have progressed to take up internship opportunities, remote jobs, started new businesses and developed more confidence and skills to accelerate their contributions in the workplace.

“This initiative is volunteer-driven and proudly sponsored by donor organizations like Tech Impact Club Africa and most recently, Pushup Africa. MumsWhoCode also boasts of international partnership DataCamp, a leading global edtech organization providing access to learning curriculum and certifications in Data careers through which women are provided with license to study for free on the Datacamp platform which usually cost $399 per individual. Over 200 women have benefited from this partnership, so far.

“MumsWhoCode is aimed at equipping 10,000 women especially mothers across Africa with in-demand technical skills by 2025 as well providing a safe and enriching community for tech women to thrive and advance their careers.
