An open letter to the Speaker of Ogun State House of Assembly – Hon. Olakunkle Oluomo

I join the Progressive team to congratulate you my dear and beloved Honourable speaker on your re-emergence as the Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly for the third consecutive term. Wishing you all the best, God’s guidance and protection.

Honourable speaker sir, with the level of your understanding of the issues that affect each constituency across Ogun State, I am very certain that with the opportunity given to you to speak again, you will work for the masses in implementing policies and initiatives that will make it known to the Governor, the importance of constituency allowance and how it improve the lives of the masses of each constituency.

Sir, this time around we want the volume of your speakership to be at its peak as history will surely count on you that you have done your little best for the masses during your long spread term in office as a speaker.

Throughout the last four years, your speaking volume as a speaker is very low to the level of affecting some of the assembly members in terms of not meeting up with the expectations of their constituency people. The lack of projects to be pointed at has caused a lot of damage control to some members who are later flushed out of the Hallowed Chamber.

You are very much aware of the lack of payment of constituency allowance throughout the previous administration and nothing was done to that till the end of the administration before the election eventually surfaced. Many kept struggling for return tickets at all costs but all efforts proved abortive due to the lack of feasible projects to show for their active strengths or working capacities.

We have to be frank and sincere with ourselves this time around, His Excellency Gov. Dapo Abiodun is now running his last tenure as the Governor of the state which he can do and undo (Boy sere, Boy o sere, Boy will surely go). Sir, this time around you need to know that the structure has changed completely, while the number of the opposition party in the house can not be underrated as they are in with their agenda and strategies.

Mr. Speaker sir, I want you to make use of your good office to increase the volume of your speakers to speak for the masses by letting it clear to His Excellency Gov. Dapo Abiodun that he should try his possible best to make sure that constituency allowances are paid to the assembly members as that will enable them to meet up with the promises made to their people during the campaign activities. None of the assembly members should be deprived of their constituency allowance irrespective of the party they belong to.

Sir, kindly be more proactive in all your endeavours, be people-based, and always give a human face to whatever you are entrusted with. I firmly believe that you will continue to use your Speakership position to champion the cause of the people, ensuring that their voices are heard and their concerns addressed.

The task ahead may be challenging but I know your dedication to upholding the principles of democracy will serve as an inspiration to the people of Ogun state, and your fellow legislators and also set a high standard for integrity on your path.

You have a golden chance to renew our hope in Ogun state as a speaker and with your strength and capacity I believe the people of our dear state shall enjoy the dividend of democracy through the channel of their constituency.

GOOD GOVERNANCE IS OUR RIGHT AND NO ONE CAN DASH US OUR WHAT BELONGS TO US.
