Students showcase academic talent at annual Community Inter-Schools Quiz Competition

Junior Secondary School Students within and around Matogbun came out in their large number to showcase their academic knowledge at the second edition of Community Inter-Schools Quiz Competition.

The event which was organized by Community Gist, a leading online community newspaper and sponsored by Garu Technologies Nigeria Ltd, a leading garage equipments company in Africa was well attended by prominent personalities, which include Alhaji Ademola Adeagbo, Group Chairman, Maidan United Group of CDAs, Mr Kolawole, as well as Sheik Yusuf Alimi.

The Founder of Community Gist, Comrade Azeez Ramon who is also the convener of the event in his welcome address said the programme is a way of contributing their quota to national development. Part of his speech reads:
“We gather here today to contribute our quota to national development by bringing future leaders within and outside our community together to showcase their knowledge, interact and to inculcate the habit of learning in them. It is not about who emerge as winner but to interact, network and learn from one another.

“You will all agree with me that education is no longer attractive to our young ones as there is no encouragement both from the government and the citizens. You can image a situation whereby the best graduating student was awarded ten thousand naira, while someone displaying her nakedness go home with an SUV.

“At this junction, we are calling on well meaning Nigerians and corporate organizations who are passionate about educational development to partner with us to make this event bigger and better as we are determine to motivate and encourage students to do better academically.”

Comrade Azeez also appreciate the sponsor of the event, members of the organizing committee, partners and those that contributed one way or the other to the success of the event.

“I will like to express my profound gratitude to the management and staff of Garu Technologies Nigeria Ltd, the sponsor of this momentous event, particularly the CEO of the company, in person of Alhaji Lukman Garu for his love for education and believing in this vision. I also appreciate members of the organizing committee who have been working round the clock to ensure this event is successful.

“My sincere appreciation goes to Mrs Theresa Moses (Editor, Gatmash Blog), Mr Sunday Akeju (Proprietor, Aksund International School), Mr Basit Saka, Mr Seun Oguntoyinbo, Mr Shola, Mrs Rukayat Akintoye, Mr Nurudeen Fadeyi (Head Teacher, Za’amah Integrated School), Miss Temitope Otepola, Mr Joshua Olaniyan, Sheik AbdulSalam Akewusola, Alhaji Raheem Bashir (Proprietor, Bash Private School), Mr Ibrahim Opeyemi, Mr Ismail Oniyangi, Shiek Yusuf Alimi, Mallam Nurudeen Atiba and other people I couldn’t mention.”

The sponsor of the event, Alhaji Lukman Garu who was represented by Mrs Theresa Moses encouraged the students to be steadfast and not to be carried away. He then donate the sum of #5,000 in addition to prizes that will be presented to the school that emerge winner.

At the end of the competition, Aksund International School emerged winner with 65 points, God’s Grace School came second with 48 point, while Za’amah Integrated School clinched third position with 42 points.
