Over the weekend, leaders of Ark of Covenant Missions Ministries (ACMM) led by Evangelist Abiola Adesola and Bro. Dotun Joseph went in company of a community development driven organisation, Youths for New Nigeria (YNN), represented by the National Coordinator, Sunday Obanubi and Usman Bamidele went on feasibility study of Odanbon Village, Surulere Local Govt Area, Oyo State.

The area, as confirmed by the King of the land, Oba Gbadebo Adepoju Idogbe 1, is rich in gold and diamond but it has been confiscated by the government, the land has been deserted as only penchant farmers can be seen sparingly in the area.

Quiet, peaceful and easy going people were found in their huts and in the vicinity enjoying the breeze of the Saturday afternoon. The Federal Government was given 40 hectares of land to build Police Secondary School, Odanbon in 2014, till date, nothing has been done after the fencing of the piece of land.

The tour of the land with the King took us to the only Primary School in the village, the school was founded in 1955, it is the only school for the children of the community and other adjourning communities. Odanbon Basic Community School is made up of ancient buildings for learning, inadequate teachers and lack of teaching materials. Some children treck for up to 90 minutes to get to school everyday on hunger strike only to return home to whatever their parents can offer them. The nearest secondary school is at Ogbomosho which is about 20km away, this invariably implies that secondary education is a luxury for the children of this land.

The community feeds on well water and stream water, as the only solar powered pipe borne waster has packed up for several years, few days to the last general election, it was repaired to appease the people for vote, but after two days, it has never produced water again.

On electricity, the community has never had electricity since it’s existence over 300 years. About three solar powered street lights could be seen within the village but it has never worked, very few of the villagers live on generator when they can afford it. The impact of lack of electricity in a whole village can only be imagined than experienced.

On health, there has never been any public or private medical facility anywhere in sight, the last was the dispensary nurse over 14years ago, as the nearest health center is located at Ogbomosho, some 20km away, which pregnant women and little children have to go through pain to get to where very necessary. The people defecate in the open and in the bush. We can authoritatively confirm that everyone in the village bath in the open with closets covered with palm trees.

It is on record that ACMM has been ministering to the souls of the people for 9 years providing basic material, medical and other supports within her reach over the years and seeks to do more this time.

YNN hereby call on well meaning people across the world to join hands to uplift and empower the people of Odanbon to gain economic freedom and social emancipation.

Both organizations has partner to provide pipe borne water for the community and to engage them in agricultural trade.
