Groups train over 70 secondary school students, young adults

Community Gist and Garu Technologies Nigeria Ltd had trained secondary school students and young adults in Matogbun and environs on how to discover their talents, develop themselves and become good citizens in the just concluded Career Development Talk tagged After School What Next. The event which has over 70 secondary school students and young adults in attendance was held on Saturday, 5th of October, 2019 at the Community Hall, Matogbun.

The Founder of Community Gist and convener of the event, Comrade Azeez Ramon in his opening speech said the event is an avenue for students to interact with people who have excel in their various professions and to tap from their wealth of experience. “This event goes beyond today as we are trying to create a platform or hub for young ones to have access to mentors who will guide them on how to go about their career. Mentorship is very key for anyone to succeed in his or her field because having a mentor is like walking through a road that has already been clear by someone, which means your journey will be smooth and faster”

The CEO, Garu Technologies Nigeria Ltd, who is also the sponsor of the momentous event, Alhaji Lookman Garu while delivering his lecture titled entrepreneurship admonished teachers to acquire more skills, particularly entrepreneurship skills in order to impact their students more better. He also admonished the students to acquire more education by reading as many books they can read adding that certificate is not equal to success and that they should cultivate good habit and communication skills.

Mrs Maria Ojo Taiwo, President, National Community Development Youth Service Initiative (NACOYSI) while delivering her lecture titled causes and effects of examination malpractice admonished the participants to shun examination malpractice saying it will destroy their future. She also itemized and explained factors that usually lead to examination malpractice and their effects.

Abigail O. Odelade, Founder, Unity of Beauties in her lecture titled important of sexual education for children, itemized causes of sexual immorality as follows; wrong peers or peers influence, lack of moral instinct as well as lack of self development. According to her, children and young adults can avoid sexual immorality through the following ways; disconnection from wrong peers, knowing what is right and wrong and self development. Abigail rounded up her lecture with benefits of sexual education, which include; prevention of Sexual Transmitted Diseases (STDs), prevention of unwanted pregnancy as well as reduction of possibility of sexual abuse.

Shaykh Kamil Garu, one of the special guests at the event commended the brains behind the event saying this kind of event should be a continuous exercise and invitations should be extended to more schools and participants.

Mr Ajibade, a special guest also commended the organizers of the event adding that event like this is like planting seeds in the heart of the participants, that it will start to germinate.
